Herb, Cat Nip - Nepeta cataria

Catnip, also known as Nepeta cataria, is a mint family herb that triggers a euphoric response in some cats. The active ingredient, nepetalactone, is an essential oil found in the plant's leaves, stems, and seeds. When the plant is rubbed, chewed, or crushed, the oil is released into the air. Cats may inherit a sensitivity to nepetalactone, which usually doesn't appear until they are between 3 and 6 months old. Around 30–50% of cats may not react to it.
