Flower: Sunflower, Moulin Rouge - Helianthus Annuus
Also known as Rouge Royale. A favorite among commercial growers for its color, though not all stems are long enough for cutting. 5–6' multi-branching stems topped by gorgeous 5–7" dark red pollen-free blossoms, somewhat short-lived. Burgundy petals become almost black close to the disc. The Moulin Rouge was a nightclub in Paris where Toulouse-Lautrec created much of his work, using red-headed beauties as models. This sunflower would make a fine subject for an exuberant artist.
